What it is
Deftest keeps a freelance business in one place: jobs, invoices, payments, expenses, clients and stats, on Mac, iPhone and iPad. It bills by whatever unit the work uses — words, hours, pages, sessions or shots — handles multiple currencies at daily ECB rates, and generates invoices as PDFs in eight languages.
The difference is what isn't there. Deftest has no backend at all. No account to create, no analytics, nothing collected. It is a native SwiftUI app storing everything on-device and syncing through the user's own iCloud, using CloudKit's private database, which means the developer cannot see a user's data even in principle. If a subscription lapses the app becomes read-only rather than locking anyone out: records stay visible, searchable and exportable to CSV forever.
About the developer
Metin Demirel is a working freelance translator who kept his own business in spreadsheets for years because he would not upload his income and client list to someone else's service, and built Deftest as the alternative. He is the sole developer.
